If you are anything like me, you have probably been hearing more and more about essential oils lately, and it’s probably piqued your interest. As I learn more and more about the harmful chemicals in everyday household products, I am constantly seeking more natural and toxin-free alternatives. Essential oils seem to have limitless possibilities of solutions from classic aroma blends to skincare to pain/ailment relief to emotional support to cleaning supplies. It’s amazing, but it’s its also a little overwhelming. This is especially true when you look at the pricing and options from well-known essential oil companies. And I know big box stores sell some, but I don’t know if I can truly trust the quality. Every time I hear about essential oils, I hear about the importance of purity and no fillers and that big box brands don’t measure up. But whenever I would start browsing through the oil options and the corresponding carrier oils, roller bottles, etc., of the more reputable essential oil companies, my head would start to spin. Can anyone else relate?

In steps Simply Earth, a newish, fun essential oil company that’s goal is to help “make your home natural” at an affordable price. I love that this family-run business that’s super transparent and down to earth. Simply Earth backs their products with a Simply Pure Promise: 100% pure oils, GC/MS tested for purity and composition with no additives or artificial fragrances. They source pure oils directly and ethically from small farms around the world in small batches, bottle them at their facility in Hingham, WI, and then sell them directly to customers.
They have over 2,000 5-star reviews and a website full of information on their brand, oils, and using oils in general, so I decided to give them a try. Oh and one other awesome thing I discovered about them is that they donate 13% of all of their profits to support organizations who are working to end human trafficking!
What I thought was super cool about Simply Earth is that in addition to offering a la carte oils and blends, they offer a monthly subscription box, which comes with 4 different 15-ml bottles of essential oil, 6 recipes of ways to use your essential oils, and any additional products you may need to make the recipes (such as a carrier oil, which I would never just have on hand otherwise). And all of that is only $39 a month! In addition, new subscriptions get a Big Bonus Box, which includes a bunch of extra goodies for your essential oil recipe making (a large bottle of Almond Oil, a large bottle of Coconut Oil, a tub of cold-pressed coconut oil, a package of beeswax, and a ton of roller ball bottles and extra bottles for storing blends). It seemed like a great way to learn the ropes of essential oils, start to build an essential oil library, and move past solely using lavender and lemon essential oils. Basically someone helping you along the way as you DIY yourself an essential oil home.
By the way ya’ll, if you subscribe for the first time using the code WILDFLOWERSFREE, you will receive a current monthsโ Essential Oil Recipe box, the Big Bonus Box (worth $40 alone!), and a $40 gift card which you can use for future purchases!
So I just got my first kit for the month of October and am super excited, so I wanted to share more about it and walk you through what I got!

Of course with October, I was super hopeful for a fall theme, and Simply Earth did not disappoint. The four oils that I received for the month of October were Eucalyptus, Mandarin, Breathe Easy, and Autumn Air; two stand alone oils and two blends.

I loved that on the back of one of the recipe cards, there was a helpful guide for each of the four oils including uses and safety information such as if it is okay for pets, pregnancy, or kids. The bottles also have this information right on the label as well along with ingredients (if blend), plant part (if stand alone oil), and origin.
Eucalyptus: Comes from the wood and leaves of the Eucalyptus plant and is sourced from China. It energizes and clears nasal passages. I have been taking whiffs as I write this late at night (ya’ll know I don’t start working until its pitch black at night and all the kiddos as asleep). I think it smells exactly like Vicks vapor rub.
Mandarin: This other stand alone oil is from the peel of oranges and is sourced from Italy. It uplifts, cleans, and improves skin appearance. I smells exactly how you would expect; like a toddler just peeled a cutie and left it uneaten on the table.
Breathe Easy: This one is a blend of fir needle, cedarwood, frankincense and myrrh. I think it has a lovely woody scent and could tell from a whiff it does what it says it does and helps clear nasal passages. Thankful for this when the weather can’t make up its mind as the season changes and my sinuses are left confused and needy.
Autumn Air: This is a fall aroma blend that can also be used for cleaning made from lemon, orange, balsam fir, ho wood, and cassia essential oils. I think it smells like walking through the fall dรฉcor aisles at Hobby Lobby. A lovely, non-pumpkin spice fall (because not everything has to be pumpkin spice in October) scent.
But let’s talk about the recipes because that is what makes this subscription box so awesome! Ya’ll I would have never known (or had to go down a Pinterest rabbit hole) how to make my own exfoliating body polish from essential oils. Well now I do!
Like I mentioned, the box comes with six recipe cards. I have decided I’m going to get a recipe box to keep them in because they are super handy! October’s recipe cards included:
- It’s Fall Yall Diffuser Blend
- Exfoliating Body Polish
- Cleansing Foot Soak
- Muscle Soothing Roll On
- Natural Hydrating Body Spray (the box also included a spray bottle and vegetable glycerin to complete this recipe)
- The Best Natural Lotion Recipe (the box also included emulsifying wax and a pep note from Katie about working with emulsifiers).
Easing myself into the realm of essential oil recipe making, I chose to get my diffuser going with the It’s Fall Ya’ll blend, which consists of 3 drops of Autumn Air, 2 drops of Mandarin, and 1 drop of Breathe Easy. Since my house is filled with a lovely smell, I would consider it a success!

Boosted by my small essential oil victory and also achy from helping hubby haul IKEA boxes to my parent’s house (we are doing our DIY Billy bookcase built-ins at their house too), I pulled out the recipe for muscle soothing roll on. I was glad this was also an easy one and within a minute I was rubbing it on my sore calves and getting soothing relief.

Now that I have two recipes under my belt, I am planning ahead for a DIY spa day after our weekend of home improvements.
Which recipe do you think I should try next?
Don’t forget, if you subscribe for the first time using the code WILDFLOWERSFREE, you will receive a current monthsโ Essential Oil Recipe box, the Big Bonus Box (worth $40 alone!), and a $40 gift card which you can use for future purchases!
Also, I got a sneak peak for November, and I wanted to share with you so you could get signed up before it ships. The theme is light up and includes 3 candle-themed recipes (including soy wax and wicks), a roll on, and a diffuser blend. And the four oils are Love (a blend), Nutmeg, Lime, and Pine (my favorite scent!).
